You're missing out on some good movies then. Akira, Lupin the Third: Castle of Cagliostro and Wings of Honneamise are some of the bigger movies from that time and I think that they are considered good by the standards of most.

Yeah, I don't watch a ton of anime from the 80s, but Akira was awesome. 70s anime 'ain't bad either. I've been planning to watch The Rose of Versailles basically since I got into anime but I haven't been able to find the time and Shiroi Heya no Futari is my absolute favorite yuri one-shot.
