I've heard that DW is not that good of a series.

The anime for DW isn't the best cause it was cut short but... The manga is BOSS. Trust me, I've read it. Also Parasyte seems pretty good, I've heard good things about it. If not then Death Note is amazing and Psycho - Pass is a must see. (They actually came out with a new season this year!)

psycho pass is good im 89% sure you will like it and deadman wonderland is 12 episodes

I'm really starting to enjoy horror/gore anime. To start off I've marathoned 1 a week on Saturday and I probably am going to start watching more a week. So far I've seen Deadman Wonderland, Tokyo Ghoul and Another and loved them all. Probably going to watch Elfen Lied and Akame ga Kill soon.

Elfen Lied is pretty sweet; you should definitely check that one out

If you like gore, I would suggest Afro Samurai, Baccano, and Btooom... not much horror, but pretty violent (and awesome) stuff. The Corpse Party OVAs were pretty good in terms of horror. I haven't seen much of the genre lately, so there isn't much more that I can recommend.

Some of those deaths were quite frightening. They were pretty decent in terms of plot though. Not the best, but not the worst.
