In more clear-cut cases I'm right there with you. But in a more ambiguous case, like Oban for example, I personally wouldn't argue the point if one person said it was anime and the other didn't. I'd just sell tickets and try to profit off the inevitable fight.

I'd just sell tickets and try to profit off the inevitable fight. Wouldn't be much of a fight if I already have all the tools that I need to win. To me, I don't think those cases are ambiguous as at all, if anything, they're the perfect examples for something that is both, and I don't think anyone would mind if I said that Oban was both an anime and a Western cartoon. If they do mind, then I'd love to see what they would use as a rebuttal, because the above logic cannot apply in this case, which means that they would have to start from scratch. The above argument cannot support any argument that says why something like Oban could one thing and not the other based on the logic that's been used, which is why I'm against even an either/or type of answer. We can talk more about this on Skype if you want.

Let me just say, I applaud you Typicalmangafan for such an in depth research and passion on the subject. I am actually glad that I made that "avatar is anime" comment and you corrected me, because I didn't know the true meaning of anime. I have always been a comic book type. so when I see or hear "anime" I always thought of it as a drawing style. The way a Monet style is done with points of color or a Picasso is surreal. cartoons like "Avatar", "Young Justice"," Thundercats" and others, whether it was action or romance, western or Asian, the style of animation was "anime" to me. now that I know more about the subject, I feel that I understand anime better. thank you.
