Worst Dub You've Ever Heard?

Are you sure it isn't because you heard the sub first which made you biased? You're already making comparisons the moment you hear a second voice from each of the characters, which would often influence your opinions. Not to mention that instead of focusing on the English voice actors' and actresses' interpretation of characters, it's common for people to simply consider any difference from the original interpretation (which is no more right than any the other interpretations because they're pretty much fed the same information) to be a negative. It's also very easy to assume that the Japanese VAs are doing a good job acting because you don't understand the language, so any tone or emphasis on the words to supplement the acting cannot be noticed. With English actors, due to our fluency, if they are off on even a single syllable, then we notice it. Plus, we pay more attention the English voices because we aren't reading anything. Do we actually notice, analyze, and conclude our opinions on the Japanese voices when we're using half our attention on reading the subtitles rather than listening? A good way to figure out if there's some type of bias going is to listen to the dubs of English cartoons/movies with Japanese voices. They usually don't sound that great compared to the original, right? First off, dubbing is much harder than prelay animation (which is animation done after the voices are recorded) not to mention you have to do it by yourself rather than interact with the other voice actors, which you normally would in prelay. Second, psychologically, we often use the first voices we hear, even if the acting is bad, as the "template" so unless the second voice is 100x better, we would prefer the original voice, usually thinking that the original voice is better, which may or may not be true depending on the situation.

Now, regarding the Kannazuki no Miko dub, I thought it okayish. I thought Himeko and Chikane were fine. Is it the a great dub? I wouldn't say so, but it's far from being in the "worst dub you've heard" category unless you've been exposed to amazing dubs on a normal basis. I can see why you're so harsh on the dub because I know that you love this anime, so if it wasn't perfect in every way and exactly the way you wanted it (which it could never be based on the reasons I have explained in the above paragraph), then it was never going to win you over and you were most likely going to view it in a very negative light. There are definitely bad dubs out there, but I don't think Kannazuki no Miko is one of them. I'd say the dub is mediocre overall, but that's based on what I remember from years ago (I DO, however, remember Himeko's and Chikane's dub voices very clearly, and they were fine IMO, I think the mediocre part applies to the rest of the cast).

No, because I actually like most of the dubs I hear. Take Canaan for an example. It's one of my favorite anime and I watched it subbed first, so naturally I should be more biased, but I actually like the English dub just as much, if not more, than the Japanese version. I just listened to the English dub of Kannazuki no Miko, having not heard the subbed version in years, and I still think it's god-awful. Yes, some of that could be my bias because I loved the anime, but that hasn't prevented me from liking the dubs of my other favorite shows.

Browe from what I've heard, you aren't alone.

Like I said before, I don't think it's a great dub, but I wouldn't say that it's really bad. I've heard a lot of bad dubs, so perhaps the reason why you're not fond of this dub is that you've been exposed to top-quality dubs and that this sounds awful to you by comparison. After all, you said that you like most of the dubs, that you hear, even if it's after listening the subs, right? Chances are that you've been lucky enough avoid the really bad and mediocre dubs, which is why this particular dub seems so off to you. Plus, the voice actors and actresses have been and had main roles in very successful dubs (most of the VAs in this dub are actually in Bleach's dub, which a lot of people love), so the issue probably lies with the voice director, though that's not to say that VAs shouldn't receive some of the blame if there really is bad voice acting.
