Well, seeing as we're at the halfway point of the Winter 2015 season, I think it's time I start sharing my opinions on the shows I'm watching
Yuri Kuma ArashiStatus: 6 episodes in, not planning to drop because yuri.
This show started out as one of the worst I've ever seen. The balance between embarrassing moe, sexual themes, and dark scenes is way off and unfulfilling in all three categories, switching from one to the other in a way that creates confusion for the viewer, however, YuriKuma has started to grow on me over the past few episodes. The people behind it are clearly trying too hard to make it something psychological and thought-provoking, and while it doesn't quite live up to their expectations, there's certainly something worth thinking about in this anime.
Tokyo Ghoul √AStatus: 6 episodes in, most likely won't drop, but still on the fence.
I would suggest watching the first season before this one in order to gain a better understanding of the background of ghouls and the characters, but this isn't entirely necessary to get the gist of the show. While this series is less interesting than the original, it's not bad enough for me to drop.
Sengoku MusouStatus: 6 episode in, not going to drop
This show is awesome! A huge refresher from the typical Sengoku-inspired anime that ruins the historical aspect with magic, monsters, or aliens. The anime's (somewhat) historical accuracy is a huge plus for me, as someone with an interest in Japanese history. Definitely one of the better shows this season.
Seiken Tsukai no World BreakStatus: 1 episode in, dropped.
Not much to say here. This anime simply didn't catch my attention in the first episode. Nothing about the show that caught my eye and I just have better ways to waste my time.
Kamisama Hajimemashita◎Status: 5 episodes in, not going to drop.
I'll admit, part of my attachment to Kamisama Hajimemashita is that I watched the first season back when I was still naive about anime; being much less critical than I am today, I considered it about a 9.5, when in reality, it was more like a 7.5 or an 8. The show is entertaining and cute, but a little boring and often uneventful. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying it so far and haven't yet been disappointed.
IsucaStatus: 2 episodes in, dropped.
Honestly, I just didn't understand this. I blocked most of it out when I dropped it, but it was essentially just another terrible, cliche, supernatural harem anime. From what I gather, everyone who's watching it seems to think so too.
Shinmai Maou no TestamentStatus: 2 episodes in, dropped.
I've lost patience for ecchi lately. Not many anime series seem to be doing it in a way that actually gets my attention and doesn't make me feel like a huge perv for watching. Of course, Shinmai Maou no Testament, from what I saw, was mostly just ecchi and and I found myself facepalming the majority of the episodes and wondering how I ever sunk to such a level by continuing to watch it.
Junketsu no Maria Status: 3 episodes in, dropped.
Honestly, this wasn't terrible, it was just weird. There was just too much going on and, while I got the basic gist of what was happening, it just wasn't worth my time. At this point, I was starting to lose my patience due to all the duds this season.
Death ParadeStatus: 6 episodes in, not going to drop.
Okay, so I was super hyped about this anime when it first started. First episode was awesome, second episode was still pretty awesome...
Halfway in, I'm starting to feel like the episodes really seem to fluctuate between great and pretty meh depending on the backstory of the characters and the games they play. The stories have gotten a little predictable by now too, since they all end out the same, but I'm still enjoying it. Still one of the better shows this season and I would recommend giving it a shot because it's plot is actually unique (a rarity with anime these days)
Idolm@ster: Cinderella GirlsStatus: 5 episodes in, not going to drop.
What to say, what to say. This anime really isn't impressive, but it's not drop worthy. Can't say I feel an attachment to any of the characters, which is understandable since there are so many, but I also don't feel an attachment to the group as a whole either, the way I did with Love Live, another idol anime. The character development is disappointing and I wish we'd be able to see the group members develop their talents, struggle, and train the way real music groups do, but nevertheless, I'm interested to see where this show will go.
Saenai Heroine no SodatekataStatus: 5 episodes in, not going to drop.
Okay, here was another show that my enthusiasm has gone down for over the past few episodes. The show is light and enjoyable, but a little slow for me, especially as each episode lately has just been inching along, barely progressing the show. That being said, the characters are engaging and it's a nice change of pace from some of the dark stuff I've been watching lately.
Durarara!!!x2 ShouStatus: 5 episodes in, not going to drop
This show is fun! DRRR wasn't ever one of my favorite anime series, but I had a good time watching it, and I'm enjoying Shou just as much. Everyone's favorite characters are back in this sequel and the stories thus far are engaging and entertaining to watch. Not my favorite show this season, but definitely one of the better ones.
Kiseijuu: Sei no KakuritsuStatus: 12 episodes in, getting caught up
Okay, here's a late arrival, but thank god I started it! This is without a doubt the best anime I'm watching this season! Every episode has had me on the edge of my seat (bed, rather). There's just so much awesome stuff going on here between the development of the characters, the parasites, and the governments' attitude towards the murders. Not one episodes has left me disappointed. In addition to the plot, the art and music stand out as well and really enhance the show. I genuinely have nothing negative to say, thus far.
Will note that I decided to not watch Shirobako altogether, as the plot just doesn't catch my attention.
I am additionally watching
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: Crystal, however, seeing as this has been airing since the summer and will continue to air next season, I won't be covering it in full.
Dropped
World Trigger at episode 14. While it wasn't necessarily bad, I just don't have the patience to watch 36 more episodes.
