The year is coming to an end and soon a new year of anime will be upon us. Before leaving 2014 behind, let's take a glance back at the animated television series and films the year offered us. Here are some of the things to consider when choosing your favorites:
-Plot: Be sure to look at depth. Was the story gripping? Which manga had the best adaptation? What surprised you? -Characters: What characters were the most interesting? Who stood out among the crowd? -Animation: How was the quality and consistency of the animation? -Soundtrack: Which TV series/film had the most appropriate and best music? What were your favorite openings and endings?
Choose an anime for each category and, if you can, one overall anime of year.

This was a slow year for me, to be honest. This year, I watched: Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren Nisekoi Sakura Trick Akuma no Riddle Black Bullet Gokukoku no Brynhildr Selector Infected WIXOSS Kiniro no Corda: Blue♪Sky Free! Eternal Summer Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus Persona 4 The Golden Animation Sword Art Online II Tokyo Ghoul World Trigger Selector Spread WIXOSS Bishoujo Senshi: Sailor Moon Crystal
I also watched a few episodes of at least 20 series before dropping them. From the Fall 2013 season I carried over: Kill la Kill Log Horizon Magi: The Kingdom of Magic Plot: Most gripping for me is Tokyo Ghoul, obviously. I'd say a close second would be Akuma no Riddle or Gokukoku no Brynhildr. I really liked Nisekoi's adaption because I felt like it followed the manga, which I read after watching the anime, pretty well. I was surprised in a bad way when I saw how terrible P4:TGA was, but Book of Circus did the opposite and ended up being better than I expected, so I was happy about that. Characters: Really any characters from Chuunibyou are fun, so all of them stood out for me. I felt like Ken in Tokyo Ghoul and Akira in WIXOSS were also very well done. Animation: Too bad I can't include Kill la Kill here! Animation isn't a top priority for me but Akuma no Riddle was nice. Soundtrack: the Kuroshitsuji OP was awesome. Chuunibyou was pretty catchy as well. Maybe SAO II for best ED, but that's less important for me. Overall my favorite anime of 2014 was Selector Infected WIXOSS with Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren in second. WIXOSS was the only anime I gave a 10 to this year mostly because it went far above and beyond my expectations. What I thought would be moe girls playing cards turned out to be quite dark and twisted and I loved every second of it. Would recommend to anyone regardless of whether or not they enjoy card game anime.

I strongly disagree with Ne-on on Ken KanekI's character. If you read the manga I'm pretty sure you'd understand. Frankly I'm not going to talk about any of the characters aside from Kaneki because there is nothing to say about them after 12 episodes.I have to admit, being turned into a something/someone your not can be pretty scary. Having to adapt to a new life, learning your true self, deciding what life is better. I did feel for him, and I mean wouldn't you? But I believe he took way to long to develop as a character. If he choose to accept himself at episode 6 or 7 and gave us some action, this series would of been even more great. newfound situation was acceptable at first but he never grew out of his timidness despite the abundant characters and small setting he was confined to. Unfortunately, the lack of development for the side characters also meant Kaneki’s character development also suffered as a result. Kaneki himself always seems to be in helpless situations which he can’t get out of. The only ounce of character development is during Hinami’s arc in Episode 3 where he sees that there are ghouls who don’t wish to kill people. His entire character is just a tease to the final episode when he goes all badass. And even that in itself is a disappointment. That wasn’t what I wanted to see from the show at all. Lets take our protagonist, Kaneki for example. He seems like a side character at times because of the fact that they've cut out a lot of his development and most of his monologues which I found to be very intriguing in the manga. Kaneki’s development and his gradual progression in the manga are vital to the story so that the development he gets by the end of the anime does not seem out of place. But it seems like an unnatural and shallow transition because of the fact that they’ve hurt his character far too much already. Not to mention that the arc switching screwed it up even further and he starts pulling magical dodging powers out of his ass. The characters probably suffered the worst adaption the most. As I mentioned, the storys took pacing issues witch feel back on the characters the most. The worst aspect of Tokyo Ghoul are the characters and their development. With the characters being so dreadful, the anime relied heavily on the plot and the violence. I know a lot are going to say "It's only a 12 series Anime. Of course, it's going to take long to adapt"... Wrong. The characters need to adapt in order to keep viewers interested. I've seen plenty of other Anime do this with only 12 episodes, so I'm sure they could of, too. I respect your view, just given my opinion. Just dropping by to post this piece. I'll probably post my list before the new years.

My favourite from this year was definitely Kill la Kill. I didn't watch too much new stuff. Fortunately that's going to change next year.

Saw a poll on Anime News Network of the top 5 anime of the year so I figured I'd share: www.animenewsnetwork.com/survey/505/result thoughts anyone? I'm surprised that Tokyo Ghoul was only the 4th highest and that No Game No Life made it even higher, since I watched one episode of that anime and I personally wasn't a huge fan. Also interesting to see Log Horizon above SAO II; even though SAO II was disappointing, I figured it had a bigger fanbase than the former. On the topic of this year's anime music, I completely forgot to include Love Live Season 2 in my list and that anime undoubtably had the best soundtrack of the year for me. I would suggest checking it out for the moe girls and catchy pop songs

I was already expecting Kiseijū to be [HASH]1 who wasn't? It's a great show and I'm really excited to see the rest! Ne-on Most people hate the fan service, but if you look beyond that, you'll see it's an actual decent anime with, yes, an actual plot. The show does get serious at some points. I'd recommend you try check it out again or at least get to episode 5. Tokyo Ghoul probably had a lower ranking because of the censorship, poor adaptation and everything I mentioned in my other post. No Game No Life on the other hand: The story always seems to be moving forwards, no pacing issus, and never seems to slow down. Its always introducing interesting and new characters. The art style is beautiful, the anime is extremely bright and colourful and everything is outlined with more of a red tone than most anime's, this helps it to really make a pleasure to watch.
