Precisely what it says in the title, this thread is for sharing awesome and well-made adaptations of animes you like.
I'll start by saying that the live-action version of Cutie Honey was just a treat. I loved how they captured the feel in the series and I wasn't even mad at the changes they did, since if they hadn't made them, this would've been just a complete retelling of Re:Cutie Honey, which wasn't the the best version of this franchise to begin with. Now it is a retelling of Re:Cutie Honey but funnier and with more heart.
I wasn't even mad at Honey's changed costume, because I think it looks good, kinda a mix between the different versions of her. And after all, with only one live-action movie done, some compromises are necessary. I really liked how Honey's collar transforms into something more battle-like in the Warrior of Love costume.
But then, there were some downsides. They nailed the crazy, they nailed the funny, they nailed the cute, they nailed the sexy... mostly, but they failed violence. In Cutie Honey it is essential to the irony-heavy premise that Honey is a bloodthirsty psycho. The violence was toned down in the Re:Cutie Honey and almost discarded in Cutie Honey Flash (which I hate) but in Re: Cutie Honey we at least got to see a character cleaved in half with a sword. Ain't nothing like that here.
Don't take it wrong, the action was executed nearly flawlessly and it had me laughing harder than anything in quite some time, but there was no blood. It is not the most important thing, but I still loved in the original when Honey all the sudden started swiping off heads. It is more in contrast to Honey's happy looks and demeanor and so is actually funny often. Plus there should have been more fights against the common thugs. I know that Honey's going to win everytime, but come on! The butler guy told that they have 10 000 of them henchmen and Honey only dispatched like 50 max.
Besides these complaints, I have only positive things to say about this film. I'm certainly glad I watched it, and might actually recommend watching this over watching Re:Cutie Honey. In many ways, this is the superior version. And I just have to say that Eriko Sato plays the part of Honey the best possible way. She does EVERYTHING right and even looks the part! And acts natural in every costume!
So basically, watch this if you like Cutie Honey. Or if you want to know why to like that franchise!
One of the funniest movies I have ever seen! ^-^
