Probably the most popular currently-publishing yuri manga right now. It only has 12 chapters so far, but I predict another 10 or so since the plot is sorta being dragged out at this point. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan. Yuzu is too needy and emotional and Mei is just a bitch. Seems like the manga has a pretty good following from the yuri fandom, but that might just be because we don't get many ongoing series these days. What do you guys think so far?

Regarding Citrus, I think Karma knows my opinions on it very well. It had a good start in breaking the common "weak-willed girl goes with strong, quiet, mysterious girl" yuri formula that is often used (I think Strawberry Panic is the best example of this trope) because Yuzu would always speak her mind and go out of her way to get things done. Unfortunately, unnecessary drama was forced into play. It gets really annoying when some "love rivals" come into play because then everyone just runs off and wants to be alone when the whole reason I started reading the series was that Yuzu would always speak her mind. It gets even worse when Yuzu's "little sister," though she's really just a friend, gets introduced. Mei does REALLY stupid things that gets her into trouble and she ALLOWS Yuzu's friend to manipulate her without much of a fight. IMO, that completely goes against her supposedly strong-will nature. Yes, I know she had issues that she's kept inside, but that was resolved in the previous arc with her father, so it's ridiculous how everyone reacts at this point in the manga. Thankfully, the manga is now entering a new arc because that last one was just bad. However, I don't see this series making a comeback.

Agreed. I feel like it's kind of slumped back into the classic yuri formula. Seemed "fresh" at first, but they had to use the classic couple archetypes as a crutch. Also, is it just me or does every couple in a yuri series have to have some sort of intervener/rival that exists solely to break them up?

Also, is it just me or does every couple in a yuri series have to have some sort of intervener/rival that exists solely to break them up? The love rival trope that you mentioned is actually common in a lot of romance manga, especially with the shoujo genre. It often happens when the author has run out of ideas in creating conflict. They simply just insert one of these characters and then there's drama. However, these characters often come out of nowhere and they annoy us to the point in which we can't really enjoy the story as much anymore. The lack of creativity is apparent, which only serves to further annoy us. It's when a manga can create conflict in romance manga /without/ this trope can we really discover its true value.

Yeah, honestly I would rather see a manga end than have to deal with the spontaneous love triangle I've definitely seen it in other romance manga, but I feel like it's more prevalent in yuri, as if a dedicated and steady relationship is too much to ask for.

With the long awaited third volume of Saburouta's Citrus hitting Japan today, Comic Yuri Hime publisher Ichijinsha has posted a preview movie. The manga, set to be published in North America by Seven Seas starting in December, follows a fashionable girl who transfers to a new school after her mother's remarriage, only to discover that it's a conservative girls’ school, and that her nemesis will be her strict, student council president step-sister.
When the license was announced, Seven Seas explained: For ten years now, Seven Seas Entertainment has strived to provide fans the most unique and entertaining manga in the universe. Shoujo-ai and yuri titles have always represented a treasured genre that many fans have flocked to and enjoyed over the years. Seven Seas has had its trials and errors with some titles, and our share of big hits. In any case, we’ve always been proud to bring more yuri to fans, and will continue to deliver as best we can. Whether you’re a long time fan who has read all our yuri offerings, or have just now stumbled upon this vibrant genre, there are more great titles awaiting yuri fans, both old and new, over the horizon.
Definitely one of my favourite Yuri Manga's. Sucks that so few know about it when it deserves more. (Not everyone likes Yuri, but it's a great read nonetheless with a great story).

Hey Ken, I just moved your post into the Citrus thread, since we have one already This is awesome news, in my opinion, because we don't get new yuri in English every day. Seven Seas has done a great job with releasing yuri manga lately & it means a lot to me, being the dedicated fan that I am. While Citrus certainly isn't one of my favorites in the genre, I'll be buying it, if only to support Seven Seas' decision to publish it.

Oh. My. God. Huge plot twist in the chapter that just came out. Mei lets Yuzu in, Yuzu shuts her down & regrets it big time, and it looks like now she has some competition. Things are finally starting to heat up... this may be the first time I've been excited for the next chapter

Oh. My. God. Huge plot twist in the chapter that just came out. Mei lets Yuzu in, Yuzu shuts her down & regrets it big time, and it looks like now she has some competition. Things are finally starting to heat up... this may be the first time I've been excited for the next chapter It wasn't much of a plot twist to me. I knew that new girl was talking about Mei literally once she noted that she was looking for her dream girl and declared that she and Yuzu were allies. This little trope had been used before, especially in Kimi no Iru Machi, a manga that I REALLY hate. The dead giveaway was when she declared they were allies. Honestly, I was annoyed by the end of this chapter because I know Mei, being the emotional shut-in that she is, won't react to this new girl's advances, making the advances themselves rather pointless. This whole scenario has the same issue with the last one with the headphones girl, except it's with Mei instead of Yuzu. We KNEW that Yuzu wouldn't get swayed by the girl with headphones, and we know that it will be the same for Mei. Plus, Mei didn't let Yuzu in. She might have been open to sex, but emotionally, she was still cut off from Yuzu. She acted as if she needed to gives Yuzu something in return, as if a trade, which isn't right. Also, I didn't look at it as Yuzu shutting Mei down. I think Yuzu was just put off by how fast everything happened. She expected everything to go slowly because that was how it went, then suddenly, BAM!, the object of desire was within her reach. She got scared by it, and honestly, a lot of people would too. I think Yuzu just wanted to build up to the eventual sex, not get thrown right into it. I think another issue is that Yuzu, at that point, was simply trying to rebuild her relationship with Mei to a stable sisterly level, so she wasn't mentally prepared for anything else. I have to say that I groaned when I read the end of this chapter, because I know exactly what's going to happen. If you consider Mei's personality, then you'll realize that there's no way that she'll give in to this new girl. With that in mind, the conclusion to this arc is very clear.

Chapter 14 is out and things have started to get exciting! How will Yuzu respond to Mei's decision, especially when she finds out that... the girl Mei is dating is the girl who convinced her to confess! For once, I'm actually starting to enjoy this series! And typicalmangafan looks like you might be wrong
